has anyone removed the alternator and replaced the battery with a small gel or bike unit to save weight.
Thanks
don't think you'd last long on a race battery alone. modern FI systems use quite a lot of power, which *may* be OK in a race situation, but once you've started the car and taken some juice out of the battery, you've got the fuel pump, injectors, ECU, coil, etc to keep going. Thanks
Personally I'd just go for a large dump before getting in the car...
Well i was going to go down the route of circumsision this would get rid of at least 5kg!!
Anyway moving on....between the alternator and battery i would be looking at 9-10 kg, inculding the 1 kilo or so for the bike batt/ race batt. What do single seater use? as a lot of them are the same engine size, having said that the monoposto ones are carbs.
Typical races range from 10-20 mins, and i was thinking of cranking it over initially with a larger standard battery untill heated, then reverting to the smaller race/bike effort. The only light present is the rain light which i might swap to the LED unit.
