First drive of the year....
Picked my SL up from millwoods this morning, insurance work after muppet reversed into my rear wing. ("I didn't see you parked"!!) Felt great to be back.

Anyways...

Can I please seek some advice, tyres need replacing (A048s). Should I go like for like or are there better options? Mainly road use and running 185/60/13s -

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Jon

If mostly road use i would go for AO-21s to be honest as i doubt you will get the temps to make 48s worth it

I'd stick with the A0418's. Although I have got an urge to try a set of A021's myself.

I have been using the R888 for road, track and race and there great value. Try C and S tyres in Middlesborough, you can get 185/60/13 for around 45 quid + VAT. I had some A048s on my fury blade and they weren't all that tasty in the wet. The R888 i found great in the wet as well as the dry, i put in 18psi or so for dry conditions to get around 22 psi hot. And increase that to 20 in the wet to get 22 as the tracks cold.
Wear wise they are pretty good as well.

Had 21's fitted when I bought it, think I'll stick with 48s. I recall an old thread of someone mixing soft and medium compound previously? is that common?

Cheers - Jon

R888's are the new 048's!
I have a set of R888s to replace my 048's - haven't had the chance to try them yet but people say they are better than the Yokos because the tyre walls are a little softer making them less twitchy.

Get a quote from Steve at Simply Tyres.

In terms of mixing compounds - yes this isn't unusual practice. Quite a few go soft front and med rear, particularly if you have a big engined car like a VX to help with the front end grip.
