Clunk in steering column
Discussion
I've just fitted a new scuttle to my car and following the fitment of the new part, I noticed that there is a slight clunk when turning the steering wheel. It's as if the whole column is jumping about 2mm or so (back towards the driver). (I've refitted the 2 bolts that hold the support bracket for the steering column to the scuttle by the way.)
Any ideas/suggestions?

its probably play in the crash joint thingy - follow the steering rod down through the scuttle and just behind the pedal box is a clamp - this often develops play as you describe - hold the clamp and move the stering wheel.
There is also a grub screw inside the clamp that has a pointed end - some file this down to a flat to get a better fit , but this can comprimise the clamps "collapse" properties when you have a head on crash - guess there is only one way to find out if it still works
