Hi Guys having tried with no luch through caterham ( to be honest they arent really that helpfull and dont seem very bothered about seling cars !!!) to find an ex academy car I just wondered if anyone knew of any for sale ?

I have found one but it was damaged and then missed another one on here that was a 2006 with 800 miles on.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Have you seen this one? Been for sale a while so not sure if it's sold yet.

BTW if a car has been damaged and repaired by Arch in my opinion there's no difference to a car that has never been damaged. If on the other hand it is just damaged...

Put a post on the caterham racing forum, there are around half a dozen or so cars for sale at the moment.

The car in the Academy year would have probably been best part of £24k (including build, paint, seat, etc) ok, the cost of the race entries, sprints, etc would amount to £1000-£1500 so the car probably 'cost' about £22,500 new... so a drop to £14k is a hit of nearly 40% in its first year... (not agreeing or disagreeing with you but I can see why someone wouldn't want to drop the price anymore)

(although the mix of new chassis & old engine means that you might struggle to fit into a race class after next season)

Sorry didnt mean to offend anyone with pricing, but the two which I had missed were 2006 car 800 miles 13k and the other one 2007 car 2.5k 13.25k both missed due to my own fault !!!

My commenst were really about a damaged one for 14k and it was the comment obout the damage really.

I will keep looking been offered one by caterham for 15k 2007 with 4k but there sales staff just seem totally useless !!!! Been trying to find out more details since last tuesday !!!!

If its 22k new then take out the VAT the minute it hits the road and then the Support package, the race entry, race licence, etc etc and I guess 22k to 14k isnt too bad in a year ? For learning to race ?

Taking out the vat leaves you at 18700 +/-, initial depreciation is usually figured at 25% but stick with 18700, on your calc then 4700 quid for 7 events, licience, midlands support etc......doesnt seem bad at all.

Ahhhh the days of cheap motorsportsmile

Phib,

James's car was quick all season, not sure if he had the pistons changed but many of us this year had piston damage.

Make sure you get a car that has had this work done, it will save you a few grand.

Why are you looking for an ex academy car? are you going racing? If not then the piston thing is not so important.

I am looking for an academy car as I may or may not race but want a good newish track day spec car.

I have had a couple of race cars before Porsche 968 and 911 but want something simple and hopefully more cost effective !!!!! that I can work on myself.

Thanks

Phib

what about this one here - http://forum.caterhamracing.com/index.php?showtopi...

It was never an Academy car but I think it was bought new at the start of 2006 for Roadsport B so it has things like Rear anti roll bar and brake bias valve.
