Want to go racing - Roadsport A - advice please
Discussion
Hi
First post, so here goes....!
Giving up motocross for hopefully a safer form of motorsport(!!), so next year will be my first proper year. Done a bit of karting and track days, and to be honest, the academy doesn't really appeal to me so I'm planning on going straight into Roadsport. With B being reserved for academy graduates looks like A is my best option.... so, my questions are:
What sort of car should I be looking to get? IE ex roadsport a, or b and do the conversion? I hear you can't buy new anymore due to no more K series. This as opposed to buying a car not raced before and converting etc...?
Are all the cars the same, ie boxes, diffs, suspension etc.
How often do people practice? I would ideally like to put in quite a few days before now and the start of next season including getting my licensre.
Generally looking for some tips so I can lose the new boy tag.
Any advice however straight forward would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Hi there and welcome aboard (almost)
I would definitely go for a Roadsport that has already been converted instead of a B, as always there will be a few available at the end of the season. Make sure you get one which has had forged pistons fitted (the vast majority), as otherwise this ia a bit of an expense. Also don't confuse what was the old Roadsport A (138bhp, 6 spd) with the current (120bhp, 5 spd).
All the cars are pretty much exactly the same, the only things that can be changed are brake pads and a choice of anti-roll bars (which a used car will come with), and obviously the suspension is adjustable so the car can be cornerweighted etc.
In terms of practice normally everyone does the testing the day before, a few pre-season and a couple here and there. I probably do slightly more than the average, about 2 per race. Plenty of track time (with a bit of tuition) and a well prepared car is the way to move toward the front.
You should come along to the Formula Ford festival in two weeks time, all of the Caterham series are racing on the Friday and Saturday, and you can ask away. Excitement guaranteed In the meantime take a look at the videos on my website for a taste of what to expect (through my profile).

Thanks - and I do have the FF in my diary for the friday anyway.
The car that I know for sale is a competitive roadsport B at the moment, but as you already suggested needs to of had the forged pistons etc which that car doesn't have.
Your right I am sure there will be a few for sale so will try and pop along. Anyone looking to sell their car please get in touch. South the country would be ideal!!
Thanks and keep the advice coming..!!!
