Advice needed 1400ss

Had the car out on the track last night, was doing about 160kmph went from 3rd and accidentally put it into 2nd, got the car back into the pits and it was sounding very rough

Started it again tonight and when I rev the engine there is lots of black smoke

Not knowing a great deal about engines Im assuming I have either dropped a piston or bent the rods

Is there a quick and easy way to check this before sending it off to the garage ?

A friend had this happen when his son missed the channge for third from flat out in second and went back to first

Car sounded very rough and taken off track straightaway. Taking the head off found that some of the inlet (I think) valves were all bent. Its to do with the head of the valve literally revving too fast for the stem. Fortunately a new set of valves were all that were required and a few hours work and the car was back up and running again with extra work.
