Help! I used to be indecisive - but now I'm not so sure. I'm in the v. lucky postion of having to make a final decision on spec. for my new R400 due in July and can't decide on a colour - pretty basic I know!

Had originally decided on Aztec Orange or possibly Mango (a slightly warmer version of Caterham yellow) but now the day is here I'm worrying that there are too many around. Just seen LukeBird's post and realised how good a classic solid colour like red can look. Can't even decide on whether to leave bits of carbon on view now! Saw a sort of powder/Bugatti Blue the other day that looked good. Now I just don't know. I'm after something classy but not boring, striking but not garish that won't prove to have been a mistake or bore me after a year or so. I know colours are very personal and I really should make my own choice but any suggestions/pics would be most welcome. One of the problems is that, unlike more mass produced cars, you don't actually get to see many Caterhams day to day to help with the decision process.

Cheers

Pugs.

There is an Academy car in Aston Martin green with bright noseband that looks pretty good.

Rosso Corsa (Ferrari deep red), looks really, really good in the flesh on a Caterham.

I had my Academy Caterham in all white with a black pack I love it and have had loads of people give good comments about the choice of colour. I feel it really shows the lines of the car well.

I have also seen the Aston Martin green academy car and from a distance it just looks like another green Caterham but up close it really looks the nuts, could probably get you the colour code number if you wanted?

Thinking about this, I've not seen a colour that looks bad on a 7 (that doesn't help does it hehe). Mine is yellow and black similar to the one posted above. The only combination I think is a little tired is the green with yellow noseband and stripe, but that is just my opinion - obviously lots of people like them.

Gulf colours work well, but Caterham do stitch you up a bit for painting stripes. IMHO any solid (not metalic) lairy colour works really well; bright yellow, kawasaki green etc

Thanks guys - no help at all to someone as indecisive as me of course. At the mo. I'm going with Mango - a warm yellow half way between Caterham Orange and Caterham yellow - with black (carbon) nose band but painted front and rear wings.............................I think!

Was going to suggest the same link as Bafty.

Brighter the better IMO, like a Lambo.

"Garish" colours don't look so garish on a 7 as there's so little of it. Especially if you leave bits of carbon exposed and things like the screen black etc etc.

I've had mine rather a long time and it's been Lotus Norfolk Mustard all that time. Classic yellow colour and looks brilliant with everything else black (though don't EVER paint your rims this colour!).

However, it's going to get some well deserved tlc soon and will be going dayglo.

Who cares if it looks too garish or fades, it doesn't cost horrific amounts to respray it, and at least people will be less likely to run into me

Good points. BTW still looking at 355s and the V8 Roadster comes in July so feel compelled to say what excellent taste in cars you have!

Pugsey, if you have a look on my photography site there should be more than enough ideas on colour.

www.fotoring.co.uk

If you're looking for a nice blue my race car is painted Clio Cup Blue which is nice and bright.

Very kind of you.

You *need* a 355. Everyone should get the chance to own one. 35k-42k will get a very good one of any model.

Have to say I'm not generally a convertible fan, but AM have really done a neat job of the Roadster and I can imagine you're looking forward to it coming. Best of its ilk by far (still the coupe for me though - just wish I had your foresight on cars!).

Back to the 7, don't bottle it. Bright and garish as you can! You can do understated in your other wheels

I rather like that. The other colour I was thinking of was that dayglo orange you see on DynoRod vans. Maybe classier to call it Maclaren Orange but I don't actually think that's bright enough!

I've always thought that would look really good too yes

My favourites run as follows (in no particular order) -

White with bare carbon wings and nose
Very dark met green with painted wings and an orange nose band
Dayglo orange/green/yellow with bare carbon wings and nose
Powder blue with bare wings and carbon noseband

So the solution for the undecided Pugsey clearly is:

“The other colour I was thinking of was that dayglo orange you see on DynoRod vans”………….

Well here it is….......a R400 built by Fred Mitchell, the spec is standard apart from the later fitted induction kit which is a bit more than CC are offering as standard now…….robbing bastards!!
