I have driven a lot of Catheram's but never owned one. The JPE for sale on Pistonheads definately appeals, "is this a bridge too far" for a newbie coming for a Porsche GT3RS. Or should I be more sensible?

Not at all. I know the car too - was close to buying it in its original form, but Mike made a stronger offer on it and since then has gone to extreme lengths to bring it back to its original specification. It's a lovely example.

JPEs are a good investment and a well sorted VX of any type is a good car. If you don't like it, you can be sure of selling it on at a later stage.

I'd say the JPE and R500 are arguably the ultimate Caterhams so far, and given that Caterham are about to launch their latest 'ultimate' model at £70K (for a 350bhp CSR) then I'd say that JPE is going to look like spectacular value for money too, go on treat yourself you'll have no problem selling it on later.

WTF are they going to do with it to make a 350bhp car worth 70 grand? Gold plate it?

no they're going to take £30Ks worth of CSR and then add a £15K @&*£"$ engine = £70ks worth with a healthy profit
