Carrying a push bike - Heath Robinson suggestions welcome!
Discussion
Daft I know, but potentially a great way of combining two things I love best - Driving and Cycling.
I've seen pictures in Lowflying, of mountain bikes lashed to the roll cage, but I was thinking of a means more secure and possibly achieved with the hood up (I know, I know!)
I've thought of three options so far:
1) getting a local metal fabricator to weld up a two-pronged rack of my design, that could bolt onto the rear spars of the rollcage; or
2) modifying a rack used on the spare wheels of 4x4s and putting it on the spare wheel and but suspect this could leave the bike vulnerable to touching the road - unless I take the wheels off. Plus would the wheel carrier be strong enough?
3) lashing the bike to the roll cage (with foam lagging to protect bike and cage) with tie on straps!
Any solutions, no matter how wacky would be most welcome!
Oh and I'm not talking about hauling a couple of heavy mountain bikes made out of gas pipes, rather a svelte French carbon racer, weighing about 16lbs!
Cheers

I carry my mountain bike on the Caterham luggage rack that straps to the spare wheel. As you can see, the bike is upside down on the rack and held on by bungees. The hood can be put up with the back window down so the bungees still hook onto the roll bar inside the car.
Jesus. It looks like you just reversed over a cyclist!
Is it safe to carry stuff around like that bearing in mind the height of the 7 and how far out to the side the bike protrudes?
I reckon you could do a rack that might see it more neatly handled. Used to be a guy (on blatchat) who did racks for trackday wheels like this:
Another advantage of getting it higher is you can still see out the back.
For using the roof, if you could get it so it just bolted to the two vertical bars, you could use the roof with the rear window unzipped...
