Hi, having owned porsches for years and laterly a GT3 which has been tracked loads, I have decided to do the academy in 08. So here's the big dilema. Do i keep my GT3 for this summers tracking, or do i get a 7 this year so i can get some time in the seat. AND, given that the academy car is at the lower end of the available BHP if i get one, should i get a similar BHP. AND LASTLY (!) if i do get a 120 BHP car, am i going to miss the extra power or will i only realy notice it on long straights?

Caterham have offered to do a sell buy back for this summer adn i suspect the drop in price will be about the price of one set of tyres and pads for the GT3, so sounds like a graet idea to me.

Many thanks and hope to be more active on this forum soon (if i get the 7 this year)

Hi,
I did the Academy and really enjoyed it. I think it would be a good idea to get a Caterham to do trackdays in. I think you might find the performance a bit of a step down from the GT3 but only really on the straights. If you do decide to get a Caterham this year it would be worth getting a car that is eligibly for either super grads or roadsport B, although the tyres will be different, i would suggest putting the academy tyres on due to how much they affect the handling.Speak to Nick Potter orone of the other guys at Caterham Midlands as they have the best knowledge of the race cars/series. These are normally cheaper but are often easier to sell again due to the demand for the grads series. Have a look on my website for my race reports and some videos ( www.spy-motorsport.co.uk )from my academy year, there are also a few videos from my brothers races in Roadsport this year. One of the best things to do would be to go and watch some of the races this year to see what you’re in for. Donnington on the 2nd/3rd June would be a good one due to the amount of Caterham racing that weekend.
Hope this helps
Peter.

Sorry for the hijack.

Peter having a look at your website I thought I had a few photos of your brothers car at Brands. I have dug them out, if you want hi-res versions let me know.

If anyone doubted it was wet!

Thanks very much for those thumbup Particularly like the one in the wet, must have been literally on the last corner of the race - it was great fun! Any hi-res versions would be much appreciated, our email is on the website. Hope to see you at some of the races this season?

Good idea to get some car time if you can afford it, but to clear the rosy mist a little, a 120bhp Caterham ain’t going to trouble a GT3 in any way, it’s not in the same league. For instance around Oulton the GT3 should be around 25 sec’s quicker

“I think you might find the performance a bit of a step down from the GT3”……..but only really on the straights”….ha and a bit more!!

I personally I wouldn't get rid of the GT3, it also sounds great to!

Around the Fosters circuuit at Oulton difference will be around 5 seconds in favour of the GT3 if both a being peddled a bit.

Dont know about the Int circuit for a GT3 but a ropadsport should be going round in a couple of minutes.
