I want an extra set of alloys for my p&j.

Any ideas where to go other than Caterham themselves for a set of 13s?

I think George Polley Motorsport does (KN) minilites at a good price...if that is the style you are after.

Depends what style your after. If your after the 13" R300 ones, then Caterham are the cheapest and they won't care what your fitting them to.

I bought a set last year for my Westfield. In fact my Westfield is starting to develop a number of Caterham bits: wheels, indicators, switches, cover...

Mike Barnby Engineering (01634 711801) make the original R500 magnesium wheels. I think they are in Rochester, Kent.

Depends what width you want. A while back (long while back, when the R500 first came out) they were something like 150-200 a corner.

Much cheaper than Caterham were knocking them out, but quite a bit more than a minilite (which is, admittedly, a hell of a lot heavier - 2 or 3 times I think).

Very nice wheels. Mike's a nice guy - give him a call and he'll let you know.

You might also want to check out the wheels at www.mog-racing.de/ Don;t think I like these as much, but another option none the less.

Have a look at compomotive CXR's, George Polley supplies these, or Compomotive direct. They are a competition wheel, but look pretty good and lite, I bought black ones to put slicks on

Barnby Mag wheels are good, but be aware that you have to have them tested, as they degrade, and can disintigrate, ask Jackal.

K&N's from Polley are cheap in comparison, but weigh a lot, Compomotive also do a Minilite wheel to comp standard, but these are heavier than the CXR's.

For trackday use especially using slicks I'd use one piece if possible or a proper motorport rim such as the Rials BUT the uprated billet centred version. Expensive but at least you have piece of mind and they are built for the job. I think you have to adjust your perspective with a trackday car when it comes to lifetime but often people don't. Rims need to be inspected or ideally replaced every 12 months.

None of this probably bothers you though and you just want the nicest looking rims you can get but I can tell you that when you do a have a wheel coming off incident its not pretty (I was lucky !) and when you start to research what's just happened to you you discover that at least as far as caterhams go rim centres can and do shear away under heavy loads and all sorts of incidents have taken place with all sorts of brands in the past few years..... split rims, one piece, minilites, whatever.

Without wishing to offend, the R500 mags arguably have the worst record. Had a set, sold them asap. There's plenty of occurrences of both separation and also their centre pieces to break up at the spokes. Some of those incidents were on live TV in august 2003 in the R400 race series so don't imagine for one minute that this is 'netspert ether' or me with some singular axe to grind. IIRC, the rims were withdrawn from the race series at the end of that year. Happened to a good friend of mine as well, halfway through craner curves ....and also happened multiple times within the sevenmania crowd.

Sad thing is the rose tinted view of the R500 mags will never be dispelled because being the official caterham r500 rim they are almost sacred in caterham land and people who love the brand unconditionally won't hear a bad word said about them. They also look very good as well. Often though its those people who dont drive particularly hard so they will never find out what can or might happen. That said, if you bought your seven for pottering on a few country lanes then you'll probably be fine. But if you do go for Barmbys for circuit use then you'd be wise to follow this official advice which was released very shortly after *that* brands hatch race from Caterham Motorsport:

Routine maintenance of magnesium race wheels

The following advice has recently been issued to all Superlight R400
race car customers by the Caterham Cars technical department:

Front Wheel 77382RM or 77382BM & Rear Wheel 77383RM or 77383BM as
manufactured by Barnby Engineeering and supplied as standard on
Caterham R500 and R400 race car.

All magnesium wheel centres should be crack tested using a penetrative
dye system at least once per season. In addition to this, crack testing
should be carried out on any wheel that has been involved in an accident and in these instances again after a further 250 track miles regardless of the results of the initial test.

All wheels used by Caterham are tested to meet the fatigue life
requirements of British Standard AU50 Part:2 Section C. The proprietary magnesium wheels listed above have been tested to a significantly higher level than that required by the British Standard.

A number of sets of wheels from road cars have been checked recently
by the technical department, and as expected,no cracks have been found.
Following these recent failures all wheels should be checked as part of your annual service.

CXR's are competition grade wheels, so are ok. Speak to Polley or Compomotive if you have any doubts, but when I bought mine, I asked the same questions, and my mind was put a rest, so to speak
