Insurance problem, help please!!

Hi All,

As I said on another thread, I have just bought a new Caterham.

My insurers have just come back to me saying my immobiliser is only cat 2, not cat 1 as required.

I spoke to the security guy, who told me that ALL Caterhams are only fitted with Cat 2, as Cat 1 would be a nonsense on a Caterham.

My insurers are insisting.

Anyone else encountered this, and how did it get resolved?

Get a differeent insurer. I've had Caterhams for 9 years, my newest car (had it 2 years) is the first one with an immob. Never had any issues with it being Cat 1 or 2.

Don't know what a cat 1 is, but I suppose you could always fit an aftermarket one, my immob is a non standard Caterham one

apparently, CAT 1 has stuff that is totally irrelevant to Caterhams, like sensors for the boot lid...

As much use as an ashtray on a motorbike (or in a Caterham )
according to the guy that fits security at the factory

In term of getting a new insurer, they are one of the really popular caterham ones. They even use a picture of a Caterham in one of their adverts!

I had considered a switch, but as I have already paid over a massive chunk of cash to the incumbent, wont they give me back about 10% (in normal insurer style?)

Isn't cat1 an alarm/immobiliser combo (hence boot/door sensors). If you cancel now you should get most of your premium back, possibly there'll be a 14 day cooling off period.
