Sorry if you all already know this but I just heard a Caterham has set the new lap record - beating the Swedish supercar.

CSR260. Only other thing I know is that it was using what have been described as Dunlop "Trackday" tyres. It is through the tyre trade that I heard of it.

Does that mean it was not a road legal tyre, or just a road legal cut slick type thing?

At a guess I would say it means it's a road legal tyre with a soft compound that only lasts few hundred miles if thrashed.

This happened I think in September, there's more about it here and here on Blatchat.

As in the original post, apologies if this is old news, or not much of a story anyway.

The time was 1:17.4 which is .2 faster than anyting else on the Top Gear board, so lets be happy with that for now.
Oh, just for reference, the reason Top Gear has not had a Caterham on the track is that JC's wife is a great advocate of Caterhams and dearly loves them. She has had several Caterhams and recently competed in a cross country race (abroad I think but can't remember where or what it was) of some kind. She constantly asks him to let one have a go at the lap record and when he says no it really winds her up - so he keeps on saying no just to annoy her!!!!!
He has now said that they may have one on either this season or next, but with all the rumours going on about it being pulled as a show who knows.

It was 1:17.04 to 1:17.06 so only 0.02 of a difference, oh and £770,000
