Raceline will do you the complete package, everything you need to install in a new build or engine transplant in a K-Series. The last time I looked (admittedly 2 years ago when I built mine) Raceline where significantly cheaper than Minister as well.

RaceCo (Ammo) also come highly recommended..

Minister is a big (relatively!) company banging out a lot of engines. Raceco will make an engine to any spec you desire (2.0/2.3/2.5 200 to 300+ bhp) - and you will know exactly what went into it and who built it. Depends what you want - say a "cooking" 250bhp from Cosworth or something different.

If you check out www.dyno-plot.co.uk you can see the various Duratec engines knocking about and decide which torque curve/price suits you best? Last time I looked there was no Cosworth 260PS one though.

Do you want a 2.0 or stump puller 220lbft 2.3+? Good idea to have a ride in a few if you can? Is noise an issue? Most seem to have open throttle bodies currently - no chance with the left hand microphones so I'm hoping to have an airbox for next year.

I would recommend Ammo, had mine for 6 months now, 220bhp 2ltr and has not missed a beat (touches wood).

220 is all you should need - 250 bhp is my bench mark when it does expire - 300 bhp is just gravel tastic.

which ever way, it ain't cheap.

280bhp from a 2.3 costs about the same as 250/260bhp - just different cam spec. This would be the best price/performance I think.

Barry - it's more torque that you need... 2.3... you know I'm right

Silly question - What vehicles do the Durartec motors come from as standard?

The 2.3 is from a Ford Ranger (bottom end truck engine) or the Ford Galaxy. With a stonking 150bhp :-). However, I'm sure most engines used in Caterham's will have been bought crated.

These people do them: www.raceline.co.uk/ in lots of different specs.

A friend of mine is looking at putting one into his Caterham.

According to Ford the 2l kicks out a whole 145PS... but it seems pretty easy to get around 180-190 from the engine with throttle bodies & an ECU. Raw engines are pretty cheap, 1-1.5k, it's all the installation accessories that whack the price up.

Another vote for Raceco BTW.

Hi

I have a 220 bhp 2L Racline Duratech in my 7. It has been there about 2 years now and I love it to bits. Used for trackdays and touring, fantastic power and very very tractable. I have a lot of respect for Peter at Raceline who put the bear together. Highly recommended. They are trying to tempt me with a 260 bhp upgrade.... Hmmmm

Ammo also has a great reputation for Duratechs so you won't go wrong with him either.

Enjoy
