How talented/experienced are you? Many people fit slicks but don't ever even approach the adhesion limits of 'normal' tyres such as Yokos or CR500s! Assuming this is not the case for you then I should imagine it could make quite a bit of difference ... I wish I'd tried them on my R400 sometime before I sold it!

Fitted slicks to my R300 this year and found them brilliant compared to 48's. Just make sure they are warmed up first. Also don't know what de-dion ears you have fitted, but if your thinking of running xplies, you need to fit different ears. I run radial slicks, so I can keep the same setup and not bother changing the ears.

Hi casbar,

out of interest, what sort of slicks do you run and what do they cost you per corner? Also, what sort of life do they tend to give?

I run Mich radials 16/53 FR2's bought them from Protyre motorsport. I bought 4 used ones, which came with quite a bit of tread left, and they were around £25 a corner. I have used them on 3 trackdays so far, and they still have loads of tread left. Obviously I would only use them on trackdays, and there is an argument that new ones @£100 or so are better, but as I said its only for trackdays, so cheaper than my 500's.

I have 6" wheels on the front and 7" on the rear, with the above size, that is the same rolling cirumf as my CR500's so I don't have to change rake etc when I swop. I use the same size CR500's on the front and back, they are a bit small on the back, but ok for occasional road use and for wet trackdays.
