Help please? i want to fit some carbon front wings to my caterham, i want to glue them on not screw them, what should i use to fix them? They currently have silicone (black)on the fixing points but i think something else is behind the silicone

Cheers

Silkaflex most likely...I'm about to do mine too!

Silkaflex is the stuff (windscreen bonding goop I believe, Sikaflex being the brand name).

Only way to fit the wings IMO - screws look rubbish.

Unless you want them to stay on then its back to cable ties and screws :-).

Admittidly not visually appealling for road cars!

When done properly, there are no issues. Mine have been on, screwless, for quite some time and quite some miles...

And yet I see them fall off on race tracks all time, unless they have cable ties or bolts. the vibration under hard use is too much. No doubt it is good for the road.

Done right, they will outlast the average wingstay on track - one of the reasons I no longer bond them on racecars.

I've never used it to fix wings but Sika Flex is amazing stuff - call them (Telephone: (0) 1707 394444)and ask to speak to tim coope - he knows his stuff and help you get the right stuff and tell you where to get it - not cheap though - I buy special window sealent (25 times stronger than silicone and lasts 30 years +) but it costs £8 per tube vs £1.10 for silcone - it's worth it though! It's also been used for bonding concrete sea defenses - so it must be ok!

Go for the best of both worlds and bond big head fasteners on. Then you can cable tie without screw holes.
