I currently own an M3 CSL but am increasingly attracted to the idea of a lightweight.. Just wondering what the difference between the new R400 and the CSR is? I can see the former has the narrow chassis, which do people think the better car will be on track (and to a lesser extent on road)?
Cheers

The CSR is the wide body with IRS and inboard suspension. It comes in two forms the CRS200 (200bhp) and the CRS260 (260bhp)

The R400 is narrow (std) body with thd suspension and 210BHP

See here for more info - www.caterham.co.uk/showroom/index.htm

which one depends on the size of your wallet (CRS260 = £42K)

If you intend to do a lot of trackdays then the r400 which probably be the more cost effective choice

If looking at the C400 and the CSR

As the guy above mentioned the csr is the 1st caterham with Independant rear suspension, inboard front dampers, cosworth duratec 260bhp, wider chassis, different interior as well (road Cars)

the c400 is this time a 2ltr version rather than a 2.3ltr and has 200bhp, de dion rear end and outboard normal front suspension setup. Narrow track compared to the csr and less room inside.

The C400 is much the same as old R400, Roadsport cars just has greater torque, whereas the CSR is a totally different car most say it feels a little more dead and not quite so live as the de dion cars!

Hope that helps a little!

thanks guys. cost issues aside, any opinions on which would make the better track car? i get the impression the 'purists' would vote for the R400?

Haven't seen many CSR's on track days yet. One owner I spoke to at Spa was complaining about lack of standard LSD and it certainly weighs more. I think an R400 would be plenty of fun!

I was following one at Combe yesterday and while he wasn't slow he wasn't leaving me (in a 140bhp SV) for dead in the way I'd expect.

He might not have been trying as hard though.

As long as you can fit comforably(most can), I'd recommend the R400 for track days.

I am, by the way, have a slight noise issue with my CSR on track days and been having to keep the revs down. I'm planning on fitting a new RaceCo exhaust before returning to the track.

Took my R400SV to Le Mans Classic last month. Owned it a year and have been totally impressed. Outstanding performance, handling, sounds great. No issues with room either with SV cockpit.

Good mate has CSR 260 also a fantastic car - but I would take some convincing to change from the superlight to CSR. Especially when looking at cost difference???

No need to specify a heater in the C400 either...
