Doughnut technique required...
Discussion
Now that my R400's engine is loosening nicely I've noticed an exciting tendancy for the back end to pendulate with increasing ease; nothing too lairy and generally wonderfully modulable with a twitch of oppo and a working lsd.
Without wishing to go all Nomexy and track serious, I've located a spot of tarmac seemingly devoid, mercifully, of leftist attention which on the morning of the morrow, whilst sparrow sings and lark gurgles, I intend to visit and destroy my tyres.
However, being bereft of that great quality called skill, I would be indamnably grateful if any of you questionably booted johnnies could steer me in the general direction of preferred techniques guaranteed to produce copious amounts of smoke and huge rotationality.
I'm cheap and very keen to learn.

Cold tyres will be best, less drivetrain stress. Also feel free to inflate to 50 psi at the rear!Don't be tempted to feed the clutch in, just take the slack and sidestep it with a decent amoutn of revs, then reduce power once traction is broken, maintaining just enough to keep the rears spinning. With the power on, you will find you need to reduce the lock and back on again to enable the car to turn in a decent circular fashion. If you sit there just on full lock it will try to pendulum too much!
Works for me.
Works for me.
Wot they said.
Stationary, full lock on and drop the clutch. Be prepared to wind the lock off a bit once the back steps out and then modulate your arc radius with the right foot.
I think you'll find it much easier than you're expecting it to be.

Btw, any guideline rpm level to go in at?
You'll find out soon enough - depends upon the grip afforded by the surface/tyres. Keep increasing it until you manage to break traction. Oh, alright!
They are ace, aren't they? The looks of disaprobation by the numpties at large makes me fear for our passion, it's just too much for their post-Bliar mindsets to handle, or so it seems.
Never mind, I'm driving now with about 75% of your lunacy, Jeremy and wondering quite what the hell Plato was bemoaning whilst 'dissing' the creature comforts of these types of vehicle on last week's 5th Gear?
I might as well get the thing decatted now, even though it affords me ample back fire anyway, acoustically very Cerb reminiscent. Superb!

Note for others wishing to emulate: only works with a RWD car with a LSD. Good job that's what DeRes has then.

Hopefully he'll understand even more how much fun it is and get onto the proper stuff soon....
Aug 24th, I'm apparently being shown the correct principles of the arse engined pirouette technique by some racing Johnny @ S/stone, I'll see if I can get the pilchard trailered there, too.
You were right all along, Jezza - these things are pure smile generators!
On, ON!
This vehicle really can't be legal! An Atom may have it for breakfast in a straight line but for overall intoxication, it's the automotive equivalent of 'Animal' from The Muppets on drums...
Semi successful on the rotator front, so easy to flick it out, utterly intuitive but bloody peasants kept sauntering past and the attraction would have been far from welcome but it spurred me on to some serious corner attacking and plenty of modest o/s jabbery.
Not quite your league, Uncle JC but the Padowan fuse is a-lit...

A few examples of how to and how not to do it on my website here: -

Was the Caterham drift day I did organised through Pistonheads a year or so ago. Tremendous fun
