Right, going to spa for the 1st time in my Caterham next week, been there a few times already and consider myself pretty quick around there and am wondering what times should i be achieving in a 220hp duratec caterham? Would it be around 2 min 45 secs - 3 mins?

I wont be giving it the full 100% obviosly as it is a TD - but still want to see what pace i am on, Plus i want to cane a few porka owners!!!!!!

Cheers,

Barry

barry... is that you ?

for an R500esque caterham 2.45 would be pretty good for a trackday lap i'd say ....although ultimately on ACB10 i'd say around a 2.40 should be possible on a well setup car and if you're a bit of driving-god. IIRC the race R400's on road tyres qualify at around 2.41/2.42. I understand that Joachim goes round in around 2.37/2.38 in his VX and he knows spa very well... he's coming round my house tomorrow i think so can ask if you want what tyres that actually was. Now for the boring part ....I was at the 2.50 mark myself last year after about 15 warm up laps or so. With tons left in some of the big bends and with over 1.5 days to go I would have been comfortably heading for ~2.45 so that gives you a guide as our cars are prolly quite similar but of course we know what happened after that Its just so enjoyable though at any speed ... have fun, and keep your eyes peeled for stray coolant !

ohh... just a thought. you'd prolly be interested in seeing that footage of jimbos mate going round in his GT3RS... apparently a very good driver and hustling round at something like 2.53-ish IIRC. I'll try and dig the video link out for you. If any porkers (except the usual race gt2's, gt3 cups etc..) come past you then you're not trying hard enough !

Rich,

Yes its me! Was thinking along those lines times wise but not sure if i should run wider rears for the vfast corners, i am currantly running brand new ACB10's 6 by 13 all round.

I have a set of Slicks that have done one race at brands(wider rears) not sure wether there is anything to be gained by taking these as the car is set up for ther smaller rears

Lads in the serious GT3 RS's are around 2 mins 50 seconds.

Should be good!

Cheers

worth taking both for teh fun of trying stuff out id say. But if you only have one set of rims then just keep the acb10's. My 6" all round were more fun and more exploitable and because i only ever used very old nasty ex race slicks i was never that much slower on them to be honest.

2 years back I had my Superlight R on CR500s around in something like 2.53 and that was my first visit, but a full and sunny day. I would have thought with a bit more poke from your car the 2.50 Jackal mentions is right on the money for a good track day (as opposed to race set-up) car. If you get the hang of it 2.45 would seem a runner.

I was there a couple of weeks back with RMA, but in my 964 RS with no data logging. My mate in 993RS was c2.50 that time and the Caterham is faster when we have had them there jointly.

In any event, you should do most Porkers and will no doubt have a great time!

The fastest R400 lap times on the current (2005 on) circuit configuration is a high 2'42" on Hankook tyres - ACB's and slicks should be a reasonable amount quicker.
