I am semi-seriously thinking about getting a Caterham or something similar (maybe a Robin Hood/Tiger) to drive during summer for a few months. I would buy in the winter or 2006 or early 2007 and sell at the height of the summer in 2007 if I could bear it. I am aged 20 at the moment, 21 in January and have never had my own personal insurance. I have almost 3 years NCB on someone else's insurance and I believe you can get insurers sympathetic to this who will give you some NCB from another person's insurance on your own personal insurance (if that makes sense!)
Is it possible a.) to get insurance on a Caterham aged 20, b.) get a cheapish Caterham c.) buy in winter and sell in summer to hopefully make a quid or two or avoid losing too much?

Alternatively of course I could get a 205GTI, Mark 1 Golf or something light, fast and reasonable to insure.

Have you tried getting a quote? May be the easiest way to be sure.

Couldn't get any quotes online mate which is why I asked on here first. I'd like to find out if its practical or even plausible at all before I start ringing round for quotes.

Im living proof, i was insured with Footman and james at 20 on a 1.8 supersport and then with adrian flux at 21 on my R300. So the simple answer being yes you can

Brilliant to know that
The question has to be asked though if you don't mind me asking, at what price???
The car would be garaged in a reasonable postcode for the insurers (my parents house.)

Definately worth a ring, i had no ncb, 1 accident and no points. It was also on a 1.8 supersport with an agreed valuation of 17000

Yep I guess so, I have 3 years NCB on someone else's insurance but it'll probably be just a 1.4 or 1.6 rather than the Supersport.
