Got my reminder for the dreaded road tax and although my car is an 03 it's being calculated on cc not Co2 emissions. I spoke to the DVLA today who said that if it wasn;t put on emissions when first registered it can't be changed.
Firstly, does anyone know why it wouldn't have been done on emissions to start with, and has anyone sucessfully got DVLA to change to CO2 after the event?

This was the case 4 years ago when I registered mine: cars that are registered through the SVA procedure do not get a CO2 banding and are effectively on the same capacity based tax scheme as cars registered before CO2 came in. Even factory built Caterhams go through SVA, as did S1 Exiges - there were a bunch at the Norwich SVA centre when I was there.
Getting it changed? I think you're onto a loser. I made some enquiries back then to get my car rated for CO2 and after battling a mountain of apathy, got an off the cuff quote of £500 to test my car for CO2. Most definitely not worth it, since the petrol CO2 bandings are so stingy you'd be in the upper bands anyway.

Since Caterhams don't depreciate, it doesn't matter about age related plates as much as other cars.
With a Q plate you'd only have had to pass visible smoke emmissions tests iin future MOTs.
Can't see why anyone would want a new plate really, just causes you more admin hassle in the long run.
