No direct knowledge of this car but it is an 's' and eight years old, and on the lower side of the specification that you normal see these cars. So I think the price reflects that - particularly without a sequential gearbox. Problems for me would be leather seats, non Caterham discs, rollover bar, and suspension 'upgrade' (I'd want to know more about how good that is with a test drive). For what is clearly a road car, 9,000 miles seems a low mileage for eight years and probably reflects the effort required to drive it (SV, heavy, too much power etc, etc). There are more fun 'road' Caterham's out there for half the price.

mainly road and the very odd trackday.
i've been thinking r400 420, but not against the idea of a 360.
i had a r400 a few years back but did wonder if i would feel the 360 not brisk enough...after reading the idea of a 620 would probably therefore be too much for the road, once you get past the initial wow factor..

I have never driven a 420 or 620, however, I do suspect the 310 might be the sweet spot for both Road & Track.
I had 125bhp car which never felt underpowered doing either ‘roadwork’ or ‘trackwork’, and, now race a 140bhp car.
I suspect Caterham know their own product and neither the 420 or 620 race in the official series. The 420 race series cars (I believe) are lower powered (different cams) than the 420 road cars.

The race 420s have slightly lower power due to regulations requiring changes to something or other otherwise.
I'd go for a 420 (I did). You'll adapt to the power quickly and it's great on the road and on track.
Lower power is fine of course - and in racing, the fun is in the racing and doing so against similar cars so power is less relevant.
You will enjoy all the cars regardless of power but don't be put off by more power. Apart from the 620 , but even then...
