I have a 2002 Caterham SV with Sierra 5 speed gearbox.
The car has done only around 30k miles since 2002 but I noticed recently that it was making more noise than I liked on tickover, presumably from the idler shaft....dipping the clutch stopped the noise.

As I have no ramp here I took it to a local garage for a gearbox oil change and diff top-up.
I could barely believe the lack of access....on older Caterhams you can access the level plug hole, on the left side of the box, via a hole in the tunnel.....not so on the SV due to a diagonal spaceframe tube. I told the mechanic the only known way to remove the plug is with a cut-down 10mm Allen key and moseyed down to a local bistro to sit in the sun drinking coffee for 30 minutes before going to check.....they had managed with no great problem!

My question....does anyone make a Sierra top plate with an oil filler hole at the front?

IF I ever have the engine out, I think I'll also remove the gearbox and drill it for a drain plug as the current "arrangement" is stupid beyond belief.
