Anti mud/spray/stone/horse st flaps.

I don't see many Caterhams with them, I always put them on my Westfields, it was quite a common thing to do to stop all manner of detritus being flicked up onto rear wings, exhaust and side panels.

I'm planning on fitting some to mine but is it considered a bit naff?

There was a guide to make some in Lowflying a few years ago. They looked naff, but the front tyres are perfectly placed to throw gravel onto and chip the windscreen - as I know to my cost.

I fitted some home made “Flaps” when I built my 7 as the front wings looked small and the soft tyres chucked rocks everywhere.
Even then the rear wings are pebble dashed so there would have been even more damage without them.
They can look acceptable if designed with care.

Perhaps Sir would like the more traditional solution to wings ... smile
