Hi all, I've read some contrasting info on where the access to the gearbox oil is on my caterham.

I had thought there was only one access on the drivers side and no drain plug on the bottom.

Was told today that there is a fill plug on the passenger side and the access on the drivers side is the drain.

I have a pump for the oil removal so really only need to find the fill plug so I can top up with that to the right level.

Caterham is a sigma engine with type 9 box.

Many thanks,

J

Fill plug is on the passenger side. You'll need a cut down 3/8" hex key to remove it. Access is from under the car. Here's the plug:

Did mine a couple of weeks ago. The same engine & gearbox as yours. Not a job I enjoy at home such a bloody fiddle, consequently I have given it a miss for three years.

I fed a clear flexi pipe (so you can see the oil) down passed the engine and into the filler. Then fitted a funnel on the other end and suspended that from the garage ceiling. Then you can slowly let oil fill until level is reached.
Its a pig getting the plug back in. Let the oil finish dripping before refitting the plug as it just runs down your fingers and wrist.
