Hiya,
Having looked at caterhams the last few years I have a question.
How many parts are compatible when you try to convert a normal chassis car to an SV? I have seen the prices of a few SL's and was thinking to buy a separate SV chassis and convert as many parts over as possible. How cheap should a car be before this makes sense? or is this just a crazy idea?

It's a crazy idea. *Especially* using a pukka SL as a start!
Lots of bits are the same, but by the time you've spunked money on the bits that aren't you'd have been better off buying a starter kit (if you can with the SV?).
Anyway, do you *really* need an SV? I'm 6'4", 34-36" inseam (depending on who's measuring) and at my chunkiest tipped the scales in excess of 18st. And I fit in a std chassis.
These cars are meant to be small. And you lose a fair degree of intimacy relative to a std chassis IMO.
