So I am on my 5th Caterham since I built my first in 1992 (Ford Kent Crossflow) and now have a new R420. Carbon Seats, Lowered floor,

I am the same size 6'3". Why is it tighter in the leg department? In my other Caterhams I drove to South of France, yes was younger but this is tighter, left leg def more cramped could NOT drive to France which I want to do.

This car is lowered floors others were not, last r400 had more or less same seat....not checked pedal box yet but is there play in the there on new cars? also seem to remember my last r400 with Tillet sets was ON a slider I think....

Thoughts?

I think you'll find the dimensions in there haven't changed, but if the PO was a shortie and had the pedals set nearer and the seat further forward that would make the difference.

ETA tillets could be fixed or on runners

I suspect this. Shortie here and my pedals are quite far forward. It wasn't a massive adjustment, but it made a big difference to the drivability, and I suspect if you moved yours back you'd notice a big difference.

To note though, I did do this myself initially but couldn't get it quite right. Took it to my local specialist and he sorted it straight away.

Just to check it's distance not width?
Missed the fact it was new. With a new car I'd expect to spend some time getting the pedal adjustment just right

I’d agree with Bert. The pedal box in my factory built car was very strangely configured when I got the car.

A lot of fiddling about was required to get it feeling right. It’s well worth persevering with though, it feels so much better as a result.

Thanks guys yes not width, no issues there, have proper narrow racing boots. Accelerator and brake is fine...mostly clutch. If I go short distance is ok, first gear on a hill can't get my leg/foot fully on clutch bite because of wheel, but if I was to drive longer distance my left leg is going to struggle as it fixed in a bad position when foot off clutch. As I said this is my 5th Caterham is always been tight but not this tight.....

If it's brand new, take it back and get them to spend some time setting it up for you.
