Hi all

I'm spec'ing a 420r, and I decided on a colour quite early on - Arancio Argos.

However, I decided based on this, from the online configurator...

... on an internet search it looks quite different - it looks to be darker with a lot more red in it...

We all see colours differently, and computer monitors don't help, but for those who have see the colour in the wild, does it have a darker and more red hue than the configurator would suggest?

I'm due to finalise spec by end of March I think, so have plenty of time to decide on a colour.

The second pic is of a car for sale at Williams near Bristol, but living in Brentwood it's a fair trek to view in person. I'll make the journey if I need to as I would like to see the colour in the flesh.

It might be the case I go for Ballistic Orange or even Acid Green. I do fancy a bright colour, and from the second pic above it's sadly not grabbing me any more.

Oakmere Caterham have one in stock:

I've seen it in the flesh, it is a beautiful colour, it photographs as red, in the shade it is a darker/deeper orange than ballistic orange, in the sunshine the colour is absolutely amazing.

It is like Volcano red a truly amazing colour which in the shade just like a dark liquid red, hit it sun and it transforms into a beautiful sparkling bright red.

Theres some form of trickery going on when you try to photograph Arancio Argos! It seems cameras give it an overemphasised red hue, in the flesh it certainly doesn’t look like that.
Take a look at this https://youtu.be/n43rT47EHg4 for a more realistic colour balance.

Thanks Gibbo, and agatebox.

Good to hear that the red hue in the photos is an artefact of the photography - lets me know it's worth checking one out in that colour before I make the decision.

If anyone knows of one that isn't in Manchester or Bristol please do shout biggrin. Can't see any others on the main dealer for-sale lists.

What does it look like?

Awesome - like the orange/red of a nearly ripe tomato. I chose it for a re spray before it was offered as a Caterham colour.

It does have a reddish tinge to it, what photos don’t pick up is the gold metallic flecks that really stand out in bright sunshine. It’s a spectacular colour in my opinion, and a triple layer paint which can be hard to colour match.

Thanks BigCol and LB14.

Fantastic looking cars you have there, and thanks for posting up such great pictures. The colour changes so much in photos depending on the light doesn't it?! I didn't think about paint touch ups being difficult with the three stage paint, but one can overthink these things.

I'll let you know what I end up signing off on wink I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel... in eight months driving

In the mean time, it'd be a pleasure to see other's pics of their argos cars too! beer.

Cheers agatebox, looks lovely. Looks like mine would do smile. It's showing yet another shade in a different light - this is the strangest colour! spin

If you bought new, did you spec the 620 nose for aesthetics or another reason?

It is a 620R!!! ….., I’m not one of those types who put M badges on their bog standard BMW rofl
Did have a 420R for over couple of years before.
Actually the 620 nose has the advantage of not having to grovel on the floor to undo the two lower dzus nose cone fasteners smile

Sorry, I'm obsessed with 420s as that's what I'm getting laugh

In my defence, Caterhams do all look the same biggrin.

I would definitely call Arancio Argos orange, and the metallic treatment pops beautifully in the sunshine. In flat light it obviously dulls down somewhat, and in shadow and low light it does tend towards red.

Thanks to everyone for sharing the fantastic pictures.

I saw an Arancio Argos car in build and although it is a fantastic colour, it just wasn't for my Caterham.

I've finalised my build spec now and I've gone for Ballistic Orange. It'll look something like this... with most options and a few signature extras... remarkably close to the first picture I posted.

I'll be back, sharing the real deal in September/October, just after 12 years out the seat!
