The ACEs unit is an optional extra and as you said it’s normally mounted on top the dash, with the control box normally mounted to the right of the of the steering column. I’d be surprised if it’s now mounted in the dash, due to lack of space etc.

Are you sure they’re not referring to the “ standard” Catetham shift light which is a single LED that sits in the dashboard in the gap above speedo and tacho.

Although it’s for a 620 you can see the positioning and explanation of the gear shift indicator in this Caterham video of dashboard controls https://youtu.be/jy4iKr5AbnU

Bit late now but if you wanted to save some pennies you could have gone with the DRE Sequential Shift Light. Had one on my 420, found it straightforward to fit, the most technical bit having to solder some connectors onto the DRE lead to connect it to the existing “spare” connections in the Caterham loom (meant for the ACES unit).

OT I know, but is that switchgear standard on all new Catehams? Or is it just the 620? Doesn't look very appealing to me and fiddly to use. What's it like in the flesh as it were?

Standard on 620 and 420R Cup, as far as I’m aware, though you can have it as an extra option on certain other models.
Personally having had both types I prefer the 620 layout, easier to reach, though I wish they’d retained a push button for the horn.

I've got the ACES unit on my R400, but I installed the DRE unit on my old Roadsport. I liked the DRE unit, it was more compact and nicer looking, and the digital tacho function was useful too. However it lacked the downshift light of the ACES unit, can I be programmed to have this feature?
