I bought a new dipstick to replace mine since the plastic where you take the reading is starting to become brittle, but the new dipstick - brand new genuine MG part - is about 20mm longer. Part number LQM100720. So I'm really curious if either the originals were specific to the Caterham wet sump installation, or if Rover changed the part along the way, and how this is going to affect my oil level readings - e.g. have I effectively been over-filling it for the last 14+ years?! Mine is an EU3 1.6 with Caterham wet sump.

Cheers!

Hi Shad, the Rover dipstick is 439mm long measured from the start of the steel shaft where it leaves the handle right to the tip and the Caterham one measured the same way is 427mm.

My thoughts are that a k series wet sump is bespoke to Caterham with a flat profile so it is to be expected that the Caterham dip stick would vary being slightly shorter.
