as I understand it there are risks involved which need to be taken into account

For me the risks are too high of the company going out of business or being fraudsters. Although you'd hope the latter would be free and far between. In the caterham world we had arrowstar and more recently in the Porsche world, SCOM and Gmund.

They should be relatively easy to sell privately I would have thought. Or even possibly on collecting cars.

I didn’t need to when I sold my previous Caterham, but I did enquire, I think (from memory) the charge was £1500, for which they would provide a mot, service and I think 12m warranty.
Market is quite strong - prices have certainly increased over past 2 years, so I would probably try to sell myself rather than SOR. Depends also how quick you want to sell, but if you want hassle free, no come back then SOR is an option.

I used Sevens and Classics a couple of years ago.
They agreed a price I would get, which was more than cars were selling for privately at the time.
It took longer than expected for it to sell, but it was the end of the summer, probably the wrong time of year to try and get rid of it.

Painless experience though, avoided all the hassle of selling privately.

Can’t remember now what they sold it for compared to what they gave me, but they serviced, MOT’’d, valeted and warrantied it.
All I remember was that I was happy with what they returned to me.

Not a Caterham, but I have sold 2 Lotus’s SOR through Silverstone Lotus who are now a Caterham dealer, great people to deal with, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Sold my Elise with B+C on a SOR basis, sold it on Christmas Eve and they then resold it 6 months later. They also have a Caterham for sale and it's been with them for 12 months now .

You'll have to excuse me, I live on a Rock in the middle of the Med. What's SOR?
When I sold my previous Seven, it was too easy! I've regretted it ever since, and never forgiven my Missus for pushing me into it.
I put it on the club site, got a message the next morning, Guy flew over, sold. Bugger!

Sale or Return.

Agent sells your car for a fee/commission or if they fail to sell it, they return it to you.

Various levels of fee/commission depending on agreed terms.
