Hi All,

So I've taken the plunge and put a deposit down on a build slot. Week 40 this year I gather. Going to be a long wait! At the moment, I'm intending to go for a 360S and be fairly limited on the extras. Premium paint, bonnet stripes, standard 14" wheels etc. it'll be mostly road use, although I'm sure I'll venture on to the track at some point...

I've got some questions for you all in terms of options. Would appreciate your thoughts:

1. LSD - I appreciate the difference these make. But the factory one at £1250 seems a tad high. Is there a better value aftermarket alternative that I can buy separately and just fit during the build?

2. I'm 6ft tall, weigh 100kg and have size 11 feet. I had already decided that the dropped floor would be a good idea. Am I going to need the SV chassis?

3. Are the standard brakes good enough? Or is it worth the extra for the factory upgrades?

4. What's the effect of the uprated master cylinder?

5. For track days, is the standard exhaust a problem? I notice the option for the rear-exit track day exhaust...

Thanks all,

J.

I'll leave the experts to your other questions but I'm 6'4 and 85kg and the sweet spot for me was standard s3 body with lowered floors.

Sounds ace btw, make sure we get some pictures later in the year please.

Edit to add, I'm size 12 feet. Really worth sitting in a few I'd say.

Thanks Mabbs...good to know. I'm really hoping I can avoid the SV. It's £2500 I'd rather spend on other things...and also I remember seeing one and feeling it looked a bit bloaty compared to the S3 chassis.

I suspect if I was 85kg, it'd be a lot easier...maybe it's time to lose that belly... wink

We are of a similar build and i did fine with lowered floors and standard chassis.

I also had standard seats, not tilletts.

Enjoy!!

I agree with you on the looks of the SV. The s3 chassis is definitely the classic look and best proportioned imo.

I bought some racing boots when I had mine to help with my big feet. I remember that many people at the time were recommending a certain type of trainer. I think some pumas were particularly suited. I'll see if I can find a reference anywhere.

I had an S3 and found it too small, I'm nowhere near your size, around 5'10 and 80kg, you'll look like Noddy in an S3, spend the extra and get the SV, it's a much more sensible sized car. People are bigger now than they were in the 60's. I guess the easy answer is to go try one.
I have an SV now, and to be honest, unless it's parked next to an S3, or you count the poppers over the windscreen, you wouldn't know at a passing glance.

Thanks Mick...interesting perspective. I will indeed go and have a good look at the various cars. I don't need to specify until quite a long way towards the build week, so I have time to go and try everything smile

1. There have been some issues with the titan diffs needing rebuilds at relatively low mileages as the friction plates wear out. An alternative is the geared Quaife ATB which is not a true LSD but fine in all but extreme trackday / race use.

2. I look like noddy - similar build but a bit taller. Lowered floor with leather seats and its a comfortable place to be. I cannot afford to put any weight on though! The SV is a marmite car but has made the ownership proposition available to many more people. Also, the highly desired CSR model is based on the SV chassis dimensions.

3. Uprated brake are not needed for normal road use or moderate trackday use. If you have a heavy vauxhall or high BHP car then yes

4. Uprated MC - I fitted one a couple of years ago as my original one failed. Needs more leg effort but much better feel as you’re braking. A lot less travel on the pedal. I prefer it to the std MC.

5. Exhaust noise (and intake noise) usually increases with power. If you were ordering a 620 and planned to do lots of track days I’d say tick the box.

As a general note on options check out the prices of the parts brought separately. Eg when I ordered my kit the 7 grill was £40 extra. I could buy the grill for £40 and my kit would have been supplied with a std grill I could sell. I know its only £40. You can get an AP master cylinder from BG developments and sell the std one - just check out the prices Vs extra effort.

Great answers, thanks. Interesting about the Quaife ATB...I'll look into it. Very good points on the factory parts.

Chaps - another thing; just downloaded the build manual ... and it makes several references to ensuring IVA compliance during the build etc. They make a big deal of it but is it really that much of a problem? Are there any key examples of things to watch out?

Thanks,
J.

Titans dont use carbon plates now, so the failures thing isnt relevant.

Can you spec 13" wheels from new ?

The AP MC gives far better intial bite in my experience, glad I fitted one as the standard had a dead area at first touch I hated.

Hi ... going back on what I said earlier, and having read a few other posts on here, I'm not even sure I need a LSD...maybe I'll leave it off the options list, and if it becomes annoying add one later. But thanks for your feedback.

You can order 13" wheels from the factory, but I don't like the way they make the car look. I know, I know...! wink But with the standard 14" ones, I think it looks really cool. 13s make it look under wheeled. Just my humble opinion of course...

Hi Chaps...another question to add to the one earlier about IVA stuff...

Rear lights; so I think I will choose the high intensity lights option, but it seems to be only the front ones. The rear lights on the configurator are shown as the standard ones with the separate fog/reversing lights. But when you configure the 170S/R, it shows the LED rear lights with integrated fog/reversing lights. Makes the rear end look a lot tidier and more up to date. Is the configurator just not updated to show the rear LEDs on the 360/420s?

Thanks,
J.

My 360R kit delivered in January this year came with the LED rear lights, and standard halogen front lights included
