New to Caterham

Best place to look would be to search the threads here and on Blatchat. Lots of input there.
IMO, you're looking at 9-10k as a starter price. If you're lucky/patient you may duck under this.
All Caterham's are fun, and you can spend plenty of tiime (and money!) on making them quicker once you've bought one.
You do need to have a good think about how long you might keep it too. Residuals of homebrew cars are nowhere near as strong as for "standard" models.
So, for example, if you're not sure how long you might keep it you'd be better off with a 140bhp Roadsport which was more or less std, than spending a grand or two less on a 190bhp Zetec live axle car (incidentally, I have not looked in the classifieds, any resemlence to actual cars for sale in this description is wholly unintentional!).
Best cars to buy at the moment? I'd say a 14-15k Superlight. It'll hold it's value better than most models, has most of the bits you'd want on a car so you can concentrate on learning how to drive it quickly, and they're very quick cars. Again, patience will pay off.
