A friend of mine is trying to bring a sat for 20 year Caterham back to life. Engine is a Vauxhall HPC The fuel pump and assembly were a molten pile of rust and warped plastic bits. He has tried a couple places stateside and they keep telling him the pump isn't available which I find hard to believe as it is after all just a pump right? If it isn't available I would also suspect he isn't the first to come across this problem so any advice, sources or even what the pump assembly came out of? This is a bit out of his wheelhouse as he is quite a good guy when it comes to older stuff esp. brass era stuff. Thanks!

Carbs? Or injection?

If its on carbs they were fitted with a facet solid state pump, fitted under the car, by the rear axle.

Injection pumps were normally submersible inside the fuel tank. As its a rusty blob I think its likely to be the former.

In my parts catalogue the external pump is listed as P/N 40105.

I believe it's a "Metro turbo" pump - from memory, a Sytec/Walbro GLS series (Can't remember which one.

A 979 or 044 Borsch would also do the job.

Pump was in the tank I'm assuming the top bung as I would assume the side bung was for the fuel level sender. He sent it to an importer here who said it is obsolete which of course makes no sense to me as a pump is a pump is a pump right? Just as long as it makes the minimum pressure and volume needed right? From what he said and after seeing the sender remains I'm quite certain there isn't anything left to read on the pump. Seems whatever they used didn't like 20 year old fuel

Hi,
I think that it was from a Rover 220.

Try doing a search on the Caterham and Lotus Seven club site. There have been several owners change pumps that involves installing an alternate pump into the existing cradle so dont throw any bits away!

You do see what is left of the cradle don't ya? I don't think much is usable there. I think he already tried caterham via the us broker and was told the parts are discontinued go pound sand.

Try the UK caterham parts guys?
Try redline?
Try phoning some UK specialists such as James whiting?
Join the l7 club and ask there?

The Lotus Seven Club (Now called Caterham and Lotus Seven Club) does have articles on the matter with part numbers of alternates and assembly advice. Google is your friend!

There is zero on that site that is accessible unless you are a member (or thru the useless search engine they have) which as I don't own a Caterham and am just trying to help out a non-tech guy out so not gonna become a member for the heck of it.

Well it looks like we are all out of helpful ideas. Sorry
