Has anyone tried using bone conduction headphones in a Caterham. I.e. the ones that don't go into or over your ear, but rest on your jaw bone and transmit sound via vibrations through the bone.

The rationale is that it doesn't prevent you hearing other sounds.

I often have the GPS and speed camera warning running on my phone, but often don't hear it through the phone speaker.

...I wondered if these type of head phones would be loud enough for a Caterham?

I'm not sure I actually get the question, but it seems to me that normal buds work just fine. They give you the sound from the phone, but don't cut the ambient noise that much. I'm wondering more whether you might need noise cancelling buds to be able to hear the phone sounds!

Love mine
Would Love a Caterham

Don’t see why they wouldn’t work for you, although obviously the mic will struggle
With the wind buffeting if you plan to use as a ‘phone’

Sound quality not as good as buds but as you say - allows you to hear the surroundings

Which ones do you have?

The bottom of the range aftershokz

I use them on the bike (push bike) and a lot for general phone calls walking around the house

I borrowed my wife's ones that she uses for running and cycling to see if they were any use when I was out on the ride-on mower. They weren't really much use. Too much background noise and wind noise. I gave them a go in an Ultima and again ditched the idea after a single drive.

I have some Tredz, and while I haven't tried them in the car, I think they'd be pretty useless due to the road noise.

I've found on long trips that the over the ear noise cancelling headphones work very well (I use some Bose QC35's) to remove the drone of the engine. Remember they only remove droney noise (like background office chatter, constant engine drone), so other sounds actually stand out more. They work surprisingly well in a Caterham (just make sure you choose the 'high wind' option in the app).

I use my Aftershokz Blue2S in my Seven but only useful with earplugs as the background noise drowns them out as others have mentioned.
