I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but a search didn't reveal any answers.

What's the consensus on when Avon ZZS tyres should be replaced due to their age ?

and, any recommendations on best suppliers ?

Thanks

I think the question should really be about whether it is legal to own a caterham and not use it enough!

I think the age question is tricky. For me, 10 years is too old, 5 years, ok, maybe marginal. Less than 5 years, fine. That's just my (questionable) judgement though.

My experience is that Avon rubber doesn't age that well compared to other brands. From a competition perspective that can be less than a season. From a road point of view, I think it is down to how they've been used and the level of grip you want. IMHO, 5 years would be as far as I would go on safety grounds.

Agreed. Get new ones one, they're just over 500 a set which is pretty cheap

Thanks all.

I’m 11k in on a 4 year old set that are still good on their wear markers - looks like I’ve probably got another year smile

My experience is that the grip is quite poor if the car has been left unused for a decent period (6months or so). However, after a bit of use they appear to come back quite well.
