hi,

this is going to sound like a real numpty question so appologies in advance ... i was up at bedford at the weekend doing the easytrack day in my 1600 roadsport (fantastic day btw - fully recommend ET days). early on in the day the speedo stopped working which was fine for the track day but a bit poor driving back home up the M4 with all those gatso's to worry about.

had a quick look/feel behind dash but there doesn't seem to be a 'cable' as such going to the gearbox or some such. just wondered if anyone knows how they work (electronic sender or something?) - if there's an obvious place i should look for a broken connection and/or if there's a fuse that may have gone?

cheers, si.

Yep, electronic sender at the back of the gearbox

Actually it's a mechanical take off on the box, the bit that turns it into an electrionic signal is bolted onto that

Assuming it's a long box RS1600 like mine, there may be other options

Mine packed up on the second lap of Brands GP trackday some weeks ago. Turned out that it had unscrewed itself from the gearbox end - check that out first...but be warned, the angle it's at makes it very very difficult to reattach without having the car up on a 4 poster - I borrowed my local garage's one to reattach mine
