Does anyone have any feel about what discounts dealers have to play with on new-in-stock cars? I have a 2yr old Elise, and am looking to swap back to a Caterham having previously owned one.

I think you’ll be very lucky getting any discount,
Caterham always have a backlog of orders to fulfil and you have to wait months for a new build, therefore dealers can sell stock at list price to customers who aren’t prepared to wait.

Have to agree with agatebox, the chances of discount are in my view negligible. You might be best looking at nearly new low mileage cars at somewhere like oakmere since they deal in caterham and lotus

Bought a brand new car from stock at Caterham South in December and got....nothing off the price!
No negotiation possible although I did get a (used) aeroscreen thrown in.

Spoke to an independent dealer recently and he said they don’t discount either.

It’s good as it means residuals are solid.

I got zero discount on both my Caterhams, despite all my best efforts! Whilst the sales people weren’t rude, it was very much ‘that’s the price, take it or leave it...’

Best you'll manage are a few accessories/trinkets.

I bought mine a long time ago now (25yrs)...thought I did pretty well - rubber mats, a t-shirt, 2x mugs and, best of all, a pair of silver cufflinks.
