160 vs older 1.4
Discussion
Hello all,
Having sold on a big heavy V8 Merc, I’m keen to experience Caterham ownership.
I’m not planning to track the car, but I’ve got a budget in mind of around £14k for a nice 1.4 k-series, or possibly a 160.
That having been said, I’ve not seen a 160 / 160S for sale of late, and I believe they’re no longer offered new in their basic form.
Is anyone able to give me an idea of a comparison between the two for enjoyment, reliability etc.
It will be an occasional use vehicle, so practicality not important.

An ex owner of a C43 here
I had around the same budget a couple of years ago. Not sure any 160 is near £14k? It seemed to be the budget for basic K’s and then Vauxhall/fords.
I much prefer the revvy nature of a 1.4K to a 3-cyl turbo so the 160 being out of budget would be no problem to me.
I do like the look of the 160 though and obviously they are much newer.

I’ve still got the red C36!
My preferred option is the 1.4, it looks better and there are certainly more about. The 160 fascinates me though - it’s the exact opposite of the C63 I’ve sold..
This is a nice 1.4k Series car although its just out of your budget range. Perhaps they'd be prepared to meet you half way?

Just such a strange car, being a 2015 1400SS with LSD and Tillets. And then expensive for a 1400SS, but quite good spec. Also the ride height looks high, even on 15" wheels. Is it an SV by any chance? There's just too much ground clearance. Lovely colour though, just like the one I used to have.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012046...
GP Sevens has a nice-looking 1.6 listed at present:

– if you really want a 1.4, I think they do a car-sourcing service as well.
