Hi,

My understanding is that because Caterham are a low volume manufacturer, they don't have official emissions rating.

I'm aware that France have introduced a clean air requirement where by you get a windscreen sticker depending on your cars co2 rating and then "dirty" cars aren't allowed into certain cities.

.. I know that a Caterham (270) isn't particularly high emissions, but wondered what the "official" rating is and therefore whether I can drive it to Paris or not?

As an aside, how do you work out the UK road tax?

Thanks

Dave

Hi, it's a critair certificate. My 2017 275 is Category 1, the least polluting, but when I bought it the French dealer suggested that uk cars had an earlier EU rating - though he may be wrong.

Thanks.

Has anyone on here recently driven their UK registered Caterham 7 in France, including major cities like Paris?

Ok.

A 270 is Caterham's domestic UK spec car. It does not have a CO rating. This is because it is IVA'd to circumnavigate various rules/regs that a "low volume" machine can bypass. However its Sigma 1600 is more than clean enough I would think to be in category 2.

The 275 is Caterham's "world car". This model does not get IVA'd as it's been officially tested and its emissions measured. A 275 gets a "certificate of conformity"

A 275 per this link sets out a CO of 144g/km

Does the 270 have the same map as a 275 and the same emissions? That I don't know. I'd like to think they are but there is no rating for the former.

This RAC link sets out the Crit' Air categories. So per above a 2017 car should be a 2 even if there are no official emission figures - the engine should be clean enough to get a 2 rating. I'm puzzled how a Caterham can be a 1. I've not seen a hyrbrid Caterham yet!

Finally how do I know so much about this? I belong to the Lotus 7 club and read an article in Low flying the club magazine.

There is a quasi 275 available to UK customers. It's the new "retro looking" Super Seven. Caterham based it on the 275 not the 270 which is handy for those who want to regsiter and/or use their car overseas. Like me..

It would appear that you cannot register a UK IVA'd car overseas until it is over 30 years old. There may be ways round this in Europe I'll leave that to any foreign guys to provide more info. It's all but impossible I understand.

Crit'Air categories:

Green – Crit’Air E (zero emissions – electric and hydrogen vehicles)
Purple – Crit’Air 1 (gas and rechargeable hybrid vehicles)
Yellow – Crit’Air 2 (Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles)
Orange – Crit’Air 3 (Euro 4 vehicles)
Burgundy – Crit’Air 4 (Euro 3 vehicles)
Dark Grey – Crit’Air 5 (Euro 2 vehicles)

The Critair levels quoted are plainly wrong; for the correct information - see www.ecologie.gouv.fr/certificats-qualite-lair-crit...
My Critair 1 certificate is quite happily blocking some of the view through my 275's windscreen
