Hi All,
I am looking at getting back into a seven after some years without one. My last was a bottom of the market Kent engined super sprint with Dedion, LSD etc.

I have seen this one at Gatwick Caterham

https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/10866244?c...

Any thoughts from the PH massive, I'm looking for a car to be enjoyed on both track days and also the amazing roads in and around Suffolk.

Thanks for any advice, Craig

If you're looking at that spec and planning some track days I would get an ex race car, save a few grand and spend it on track time smile

Pictures 3 and 5 are of a different car totally....very poorly put together ad.

Price wise, Id say its about right from a Dealer tbh....

Shame its only 5 speed, but not a deal breaker - for some.

Looks a very nice hardly used car in its 8 years. And a first - electric mirrors. But then you'd never expect the manufacturer to be able to get the ad right.

But what a jolly big price! I think I'd rather a 1700 supersprint crossflow DD car!

So it hasn't got electric mirrors then! It does look clean and the actual ad on Caterhams website is much better. It has had 6 owners and has a bit of a sketchy service history with some gaps and an owner service in the book but I suppose a lot of them are like that. I would do most of the maintenance myself anyhow.

Thanks for the input up to now.

That's a car that's changed hands a lot! I don't think sketchy maintenance makes a huge difference.

It looks a good car, but I'd be checking that the spec is what you want. At that price you should have a good choice of cars of different varieties. So things like seats. I have a preference for tillets for example.

Also what are the suspension and brakes?

I presume there is a price premium for being a limited edition. Again just be sure you are spending your money for what you want.

Looks to be a genuine Supersport whereby they've swapped the tillets out for leather seats.

As an ex-Supersport owner, that one looks pricey for what it is. You're paying a good few grand extra for that paint job.

I'd be inclined to look around as you should be able to pick up a similar age & mileage Supersport, that hasn't had 6 owners, for around £20k.

Depends how much you value safety of buying from caterham- as others have said you are paying a big premium for it.

Also depends how many track days you are going to do, if you are going to do a lot you could end up craving more power than 140bhp quite quickly, (I should know - I’ve just sold my 150bhp kseries and bought a 220bhp duratec!) - for £25k you could buy a lot more power.

PT Sports have a gulf blue one for sale with an uprated 1.6 sigma engine (175bhp) for same money. I would but that one over this every day of the week...only 3 month warranty but a lot of people trust Ian Payne.

Thanks again for all the input. I've taken the plunge now and pick it up soon. The paint scheme and buying from Caterham did sway the deal and although its a little pricey that wasn't my first concern.

Next question, how much is that Premier Power 175 upgrade?

If it's too late, it's too late...but I wouldn't be paying top dollar and immediately want to be paying yet more money to get more power. Be patient and buy one that comes as you want it, or gives you room in the price to cover what you want to do with it. There seem to be good cars coming and going and the asking price on this one is strong.

In addition to the comments above, if you want to do a few track days, a FIA bar is well worth having.

(If it is too late, enjoy it smile)

Oh well - enjoy!

The premier power f175 upgrade is expensive I could be wrong but I think it is over £5k....hence the suggestion to buy a car with the power you want initially!

This F175?

(Have to say I'm not the biggest fan of Gulf colours on a 7. But still....)
