Hi all

My 1998 1.8 K series starts fine when cold, however I took it out the other evening and attempted a hot start as i had forgotten to check the oil level when i got home and it wouldn't start. The engine turns over so the solenoid is dropping (not like the k series click i had with my previous 7), but it turned very lazily for a second and then the starter died each time I attempted to start it, very similar to a flat battery. However it seems counter intuitive that its a low battery as the solenoid dropped, so had enough power for that. It did seem like a voltage drop off being hot though. I went back to the garage two hours later and it had cooled down and started on the first press of the starter button confirming this is a heat related issue as i never hooked up the battery charger in between.

Battery is an Odyssey extreme and has a Brise starter both c10 years old. Its kept on the battery charger permanently. It also has an FIA switch fitted which i know can be problematic and an Emerald which i dont think is an issue.

Does anybody have any thoughts as I have a track day in a few weeks time.

Regards

Matt

Probably in the order I'd check...

Battery
Starter cables
Starter
Bottom end getting tight

Could all be heat affected.

Hi, I had this problem in the last couple of weeks on my K series. I took the starter off and found the trigger wire was poorly connected. Sorted that and had no issues after. It is not too difficult a job to get the starter off.

Just an update in case anyone else has a similar issues. Cleaning all the terminals and wires attaching on the battery solved the issue, even though they all looked clean
