Thinking about getting some instruction for the track. Anyone been down this route and if so, info` on format, cost, usefulness/value for money etc etc much appreciated.

I've just done the Academy 1 day with MSE (£99 for the day - all Caterhams on the day I was on) www.motorsport-events.com . This was a great day teaching about lift-off oversteer, balancing the car etc. Not totally track instruction, but very useful for learning about the handling and capabilities of the car. The Academy 2 day is more track-orientated. As for purely track instruction, most trackday organisers arrange instruction on the day. Don't know where you are, but if you can book a day on the GT course at Bedford Autodrome, this is a great circuit for learning about trackdays - loads of run-off and very little to hit with a fantastically smooth circuit too. Easytrack and RMA both hold days there.

Most track days have instructors available. That way you can learn the track on the first session, then have some instruction next session, and a later one in the day. E.g. bookatrack charge 20 quid a session.

I've just done a track day down at Keevil on Monday. Booked through MSE for £25 I had two 15 minute lessons (that turned out to be about 1 hr each).

It was invaluable and I reckon I learn't more in that time than if I had spent the next 5 track day sessions trying to find my own line.

Forget any car upgrades because this saved me at least 10 seconds a lap through driving smoothly, on the correct line, with the correct balance into the corners.

In those sessions the ex Caterham champ even had me heeling and toeing, something I didn't even see the benefit of before. I have been practicing on the roads ever since.

This is the best £25 performance upgrade I have ever bought.

I did a day with Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe - a great confidence builder as we explored the limits of grip. Expensive, and took a fair bit off my tyres, but well worth it.

i've also done a day with don at bruntingthorp - he is a great guy - taught me a load and you can really get stuck in at brunters cause there's nothing to hit - it was a bit heavy on the tyre where but well worth it.
