Wondering if anybody can enlighten me on spec of my Caterham. I bought it from a friend and have little to no paperwork. He was second owner and bought it from a Ferrari Dealer but only received v5. No other paperwork. I believe it was built at Caterham and may be a S3 Superlight spec (no Superlight stickers) and has 2.0 Duratec engine which I reckon was built by Minister International as has sticker on rear. Chassis number is SDKRDKANS7. Want to repaint front wings and trying to confirm paint colour/code. V5 says it is Viper Blue which I believe is a Ford colour but just want to be sure. Would be great to get the build spec too. Any help appreciated.

Pretty sure the K in the VIN dictates a kit build and not factory but Im not 100%.

Yeah. Done some googling and got as far as K which your right is Kit. So gussing S7 is chassis/body type.

SDK is the manufacturer code for Caterham
R is right hand drive
D is de-Dion
K is Kit. (Always makes me laugh as if I ever see another Caterham that’s been ‘built by an engineer or a pilot’ in its sale listing I’ll go mad!) some cars were supplied as kits to Caterham dealers and built off site as it were, mine was built at a dealer.
A stands for ‘alternative’ non HPC/Clubman/race car’. I wonder if this is what Superlights were designated, but as you say the engine was built by Minister I suspect that’s the clue to the next two letters...
NS is engine not supplied.Or just N built 1992, S Escort Rs Axle
7 is 7...

Caterham do have an archivist, worth contacting. Or the Superlight register http://www.thecaterhamregister.net/superlight%20R5...

Oh, and enjoy!

As far as I am aware, Caterham never produced a factory built 7 fitted with the Duratec - although it was a popular engine with kit builders or as a retro-fit for those who had originally fitted a Crossflow.

Correct.

Too many "...tec" engines.

Sent details to Martin from Caterham so hopefully he can give me a bit more detail. Some info I do know about car is original owner was a part time racer who I believe (google) worked for Red Bull racing as a software programmer and his name was on sticker on ECU. KT10 VDR wasn't a race car although may have done some tracks days but was in really good condition so wouldn't think it did many and had standard road tyres on it. My mate bought it from a Ferrari dealer in England but only did 200miles in 3 years. Gave me first refusal and couldn't resist so I'm the 3rd owner. Some pics below. Car has done nearly 5k now and I have done about 1k of those and had it 5 years. I have done 4 or 5 track days with it since having it and after one really wet track day at Croft it was off the road for a while as developed a misfire and was having a job getting it diagnosed. After 3 different garages looked at it, Dreadnought in Calander sussed it out. Turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor. Since last 2 year only had some summer day runs. When my mate had it noted it was 2 litre Duratec with Cosworth inlet manifold and had been tuned. ECU has sticker on it saying C400 so wondering if it is a C400 which I think should have about 220bhp but mate was told it was 235bhp. Seems after a bit more research that Minister developed the C400 cosworth engine along with Caterham. Unfortunately Minister are no longer on the go so unable to get full details of engine spec. Not had it on a rolling road so not sure actual BHP but she is fast enough. Looking at doing the NW500 this summer as live in Aberdeen then might sell as fancy a change. Been saying that for last 2 springs but once I take her out change my mind. Canna make up my mind what I would buy instead either.
