Is it brand new if it was made in 1992?

IIRC Arch won’t supply a new chassis directly unless it is to replace an identifiable chassis which is surrendered.

Does it have a chassis plate is the chassis number known to Caterham?

If it's an old new chassis then you will very likely end up with a q plate as you won't be able to prove its age.
That's assuming pretty much everything else will be used as well.

I've seen that for sale for a while. It's all unknown parts effectively so you will get a q.
It will be a bit harder than a current car to get through iva I imagine as it won't have the latest parts designed to pass it but should be doable.
Enjoy the build.

Look behind the driver's seat where you bolt on the seat belts.
You will find the Jig no. the year of built and the S/N.
I dont think you need anything else

It's a new build. Put it through IVA.

I need this info also. 1996 Academy / Scholarship Xflow . Could you be a bit more specific on which tube it is? my seats are difficult to get behind and I dont want to remove them, but they are adjustable about 6" forward.
Thanks,
Scott

it’s not really behind the seats .

above the drivers side rear wheel arch, at the base of the rollbar, there is a circular boss about 30mm diameter with a threaded hole in it, hole is about 10mm.
stamped into this boss around the hole will be some text.
Probably something like
AM82
J2

arch motors, 1982, Jig 2

Following on from last week I have finally got around to having a closer look at my arch chassis. Thanks for the help with finding the Arch chassis number jig number etc.

As the chassis has never been used and been left in a garage for 26 years it looks in good condition no sign of rust etc. AS A NEWBIE I would appreciate any thoughts on what you think I should do with it.

So I have most of the front / rear suspension dedion etc from caterham so I would really like to try and build it to the 1992 spec (I have the build manual for 1992 it's about 4 inchs thick!!)

What I'm worrying about is making sure it can get through IVA for example I would like to put a x/flow engine in it (I have a zetec silver top but it don't seem write)

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I think you'd struggle to get a X flow through emissions on IVA, unless you were using electronic fuel injection.

Spray plenty of waxoil up inside the space between the foot well boxes and side skins, and along the bottom of the engine bay lower chassis rails and side skins.
This is always where they rot out.

Cheers do you reckon it's a good idea to put some por15 or similar on the underside of chassis rear end etc or just leave it as bare aluminium

perhaps best to investigate registering the car as an age related - 1992 - so you can change the plate in the future, if yousettle for a 'Q' it is stuck on that for good.

See -

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitconvert...

Get an age-related registration number
You can apply for an age-related number if you can prove you’ve used 2 original major parts along with:

a new monocoque bodyshell, chassis or frame from a specialist kit manufacturer - although 1992 - it's not been used so technically 'new'
an altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame from the original vehicle - NA
The registration number will be based on the age of the original vehicle. - so 1992

Your vehicle must pass the relevant type approval test to get an age-related registration number.

Thanks for that link an Age related plate would be great I'm still undecided on engine to use I would like it to be a carbed engine but don't think it will get through IVA
