I am thinking of buying a 1-2 yr old 420R for use as a track car, and although I have had lots of experience of buying road cars, have never bought this type of car. I do have some experience of driving them on the track having driven 620R's, 420R's, R400 and 300. From that experience I feel the 420R would suit my budget whilst providing enough trackday fun and I am thinking about taking the plunge and buying one.
I am looking for any advice or experience people have of buying these, any pitfalls, what to look out for, are dealers best option (less risk?), negotiation around price, etc.
Any help would be very welcome!

I'd recommend talking to Ian @ PT Sports Cars in Maidenhead (he races Caterham's) and/or Damian at GP Sevens in Kent; they're most likely to source you a decent vehicle, as well as providing advice on the best model for your needs.

I think Sevens and Classics at the paddock entrance to Brands Hatch would be worth talking to as well.

Absolutely cracking cars for track use in my opinion, very forgiving, and when competently driven, not much short of a radical is going to embarrass you. There are a few aftermarket options for adjustable dampers etc. An aeroscreen is a big bonus on track too.
