Hi everyone,

I really like the idea of assembling my own Seven. I have an EU citizenship, I'm currently living in the US, but I want to return to Europe soon and then get my own share of car assembly fun. I am aware that registering kit cars is much more problematic (if at all possible) in continental Europe, but given the uncertain future of EU citizens in the UK after brexit, it might become difficult to register myself in the the UK.

Does anybody here have any experience with registering home-built Caterhams or other kit cars outside the UK?

Wikipedia says: "To obtain permission to use a kit car in Germany, every such vehicle with a speed over 6 km/h without a general operating license (ABE) or an EC type permission (EC-TG) has to undergo, as per the § 21 of Road traffic licensing regulations (StVZO), a technical inspection by an officially recognized expert of a Technical Inspection Authority." Is it possible for a self-assembled Caterham to pass such technical inspection?

Not sure about registering kits in Germany, but I know a chap who wanted to take his Caterham to France. Turns out it is very difficult to register a new kit in France. If it is old it gets away with being a classic, but newer Caterhams have to be to the latest Euro Low volume approval spec (fly by wire throttle etc) and I believe factory built.

The press are totally over the top on Brexit. I think it highly unlikely that any foreign national who is working here after Brexit and is paying taxes will be asked to leave. The whole immigration thing is about people from the EU who come here without jobs and send their benefits home.
