For trackdays, so no need to be FIA certified etc., but I'm getting a bit fed up of trying to wriggle my slightly-too-big shoes around the brake pedal - I flat can't drive in trainers, it's just about bearable, but annoying with a set of comverse all stars, so at the risk of looking a prat I was thinking race boots might be a bit neater - however for something used half a dozen times a year, I don't really want to splash 100+

Wondering if anyone has a tried and tested recommendation, or even any 'just avoid' advice.

Cheers.
Mark.

Puma Drift Cat is a fairly ubiquitous trainer option with Caterham drivers. I bought mine half a size too small and stretched them in. Pretty nice because the sole doesn't protrude beyond the width of your foot.

Demon Tweeks have a clearance sale on at the moment. Might just squeeze something in at around the £100 mark. Don't see why you'd look a prat with one of the plain(ish) black ones.

Some people wear karting boots. Around £30 on eBay e.g. these

Thanks for the suggestions - nice as they are was looking for something rather cheaper than the 100quid ish FIA boots, 30 quid kart boots are probably favourite smile.

Looking a prat comment is slightly tongue in cheek, turning up at a trackday with all the gear, no idea etc.

Having recently returned to the 7 fray, I went to grab my Puma race boots out of the wardrobe in readiness for test drives and purchase....only to find, after an extensive search high and low that they had disappeared!

As I had no time to sort anything before my first test drive, I grabbed the Slazenger canvas pumps I bought for holiday for a fiver from Sports Direct and to my surprise they are absolutely perfect! Thin both in sole depth and width makes them absolute spot on for me and my size 10's. Have decided to save myself the money and stick with the pumps. Absolutely as good as the boots I had.

Don't get me wrong, they don't look anything special, but a fiver is a fiver and I need to save pennies now I've spent everything on a car! Maybe not what you're after, but thought I'd mention just in case

I've had some brown Speed Cats for years that I finally decided were past their best this summer, replaced them with some Drift Cats and have no complaints. They're reasonably comfortable for walking (the bottom of the shoe is quite thin and hard), but they're ideal for driving and you don't like like a prat in them.

Puma speed cats or karting boots. I've used both. Go for the lower ankle karting boots in a dark colour and you can "get away" with it in the summer in shorts. If you go for the full length ankle they do look a bit odd.

Karting boots tend to wear out a bit quicker, especially if you get them wet.
