Personally I wouldn't bother. I've only ever noticed a difference in slow moving traffic around town. Once moving properly any additional heat it provides just blows out.
If you've got the hood up then heat soak from the engine and tramission gives more than enough heat.
If you're going to get cold in a Caterham it'll be around the shoulders, the heater won't make any difference there.

The heater does make a difference. With carpets in the car, heat soak is minimal...plus the blower motor moves the hot air around the cockpit...heat soak just warms the leg closest to the transmission tunnel.

We had one retro-fitted by Steve Parker (RIP) and as the bill was cheap, I guess it was relatively easy to do smile

That's my experience too. I bought a second hand heater for sub-£50 and the bill for fitting was about the same. Definitely worth doing in my opinion.

Google auxilliary 12v heaters.I fitted one to a "7" some years ago, unlike the factory units fitted to these cars you can obtain a very compact unit (the matrix which encorprates a small fan is approx 100mmx100mmx120mm )Very easy to install using 75mm flexible ducting to draw air from the nose cone area.or from the cockpit itself .Install a basic heater control valve which allows you to shut down the flow and return of hot water from the engine,I made things a little more sofisticated buy installing duct work feeding each footwell and small dash top vents to heat the screen.(my early car didn't, benefit from a heated screen)A basic fan speed control switch may also be fitted,Tailor the installation to your own requirements.Think the heater cost around £85.00.High heat output (1.8KW ) for such a small unit.Regards Baz.
