Hi.

It seems my alternator has given up.
Anyone know of a direct replacement for this?
Car is a 1990 reg. supersprint 1700 crossflow alternator seems to be a Valeo 45a.
I have difficult reading the rest.

Any help will be apriciated.

Lucas 18ACR in mine. Same engine, different chassis. Does yours have the 3 pin plug on the rear?

I have recently changed mine for the Lucas. Cost about £60 off the bay.

Yes, that's one. The same plug as mine. I will find you a link for the one I bought.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170934383551

This is the exact one I have fitted.

Edited to add link.

Does this fit right in the bracket and do I need to modify wires?

When my alternator (1700 Crossflow) I took it to the local refurbisher. He said he didn't have one to replace on an exchange basis, so I said that I thought Ford Capri ones fitted. He picked one up from a shelf and asked me to come back in 10 mins after he'd changed some bracketry.

Hello Henrik
Welcome and good to see you have a proper, not one of these modern ones.
The Ford Crossflow engine was fitted in loads of Fords in the 1970's to 1990's, Escorts, Capris, with engines from !300cc 1600cc etc
You shouldn't have any problems sourcing an alternator but Burton are a well known Ford Specialist in the UK for all sorts of parts but be careful, you might start to spend a lot of money on upgrades!

It would be even better if it stopped leaking oil!laugh

That's for the crank sensor. I'm running an omex ecu. Ignition only. It's a very reliable and maintainance free set up.

Yes, I went the "old school" way on purpose, I like to work on the old machines my self, and they produce a great sound.

I also have a 850 Norton commando in the garage :-)

As you like the sound of an old school Xflow, this may be up your street. This is my car on the rolling road last week.

https://youtu.be/ZeEI0GSj5nY

The video doesn't really do it justice, it was LOUD!laugh

I got the feeling, I know it is nearly impossible to record the sound the same way you hear it.

How many RPM´s was that?

That run was 6500rpm if I remember correctly. We did 3 or 4 runs to 7500rpm but was pointless really as power had tailed after 6500. We lowered the Rev limit to 6800 so as not to stress the engine too much.
